For those who might not know (which included me until a few moments ago when I googled it), August is National Sandwich Month.
You might be a lover of everything in between slices of bread, but when you say Pittsburgh sandwich, a multi-layered sandwich comes to mind.
Primanti Bros. has been serving its signature stacked sandwich (stuffed with fries, meat, cheese and often an egg) since 1933. The the story goes that the sandwich stuffed with fries was sort of a happy accident, but when the Strip District drivers found out, they were elated. Putting the fries inside the sandwich meant they could eat a full meal with one hand while driving.
It’s the magic of multitasking in one sandwich.
