* Shannon Flaherty, Chair of the Student Programming Board at Quinnipiac University, recently received the Ken Bedini Student Leader Award from the National Association for Campus Activities for the North East region. The award recognizes the outstanding contributions of undergraduate student leaders from the North East region who continually make a difference in their institutions. In addition to the Student Programming Board, Flaherty is involved in many campus activities, including QTHON, a dance marathon that raises funds for Connecticut Children’s Medical Center; Lambda Pi Eta, Honorary Society of the National Communication Association; and the Quinnipiac Spirit. She has also been a Teletubby artist in ice hockey games and various other sporting events.
* Hamden Rotary recently announced its Students of the Month. In October, the club appointed Aashir Vohra, a sixth-grader from Shepherd Glen. An enthusiastic student, he also excels in the field of citizenship. His kindness, compassion and service make him a role model for others, encouraging everyone to do their best. He is pictured with his teacher Jaqueline Williams, principal Barbara Perrotti and Rotarian Betsy Gorman.
