NOCD Expands OCD Awareness Week Programming to Run Throughout October
CHICAGO–(COMMERCIAL THREAD) – Today, NOCD, the # 1 telehealth provider for the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder and the renowned sponsor of the OCD walks of the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF), announced that it has expanded its programming to OCD week to a whole month to raise awareness about OCD. As part of this, NOCD has launched an online destination and essential resource.
“We are committed to doing all we can to raise awareness of this serious psychiatric illness, because without this awareness, finding an effective, evidence-based treatment can take years,” said Stephen Smith, CEO of NOCD. “This is why we are expanding our OCD Awareness Week activities throughout October. There are over 180 million people affected by OCD worldwide, many cannot find a suitable treatment, and those who have been diagnosed and improperly treated are still in pain and are unaware that there are certain therapies that can provide relief. . Awareness is the first step in education, and we are investing in awareness.
The first #OCDWeek started in 2009 and was designed to share knowledge and reduce the stigma associated with OCD and related disorders. Since then, every October, community groups, service organizations and clinics around the world come together to raise awareness of this serious psychiatric illness through educational lectures, art exhibitions, fundraisers. local funds, etc.
This year, NOCD is expanding its support for International OCD Awareness Week throughout October. NOCD, working with partners and other industry organizations, has taken it upon themselves to aggregate and create content to bring together a special focus for the entire month of October. NOCD has released a programming calendar where the public can find and register for a wide range of activities they can participate in to learn more about OCD and support those who live with it. This calendar features educational and informational resources produced by NOCD’s experts and community partners, all designed to raise awareness of this serious psychiatric illness. Calendar events and resources include, but are not limited to:
Education for moms with postpartum OCD
Resources for those new to evidence-based exposure and response (ERP) treatment
IOCDF OCD walks in person to connect with other community members in your area
“Untreated, OCD can have devastating effects on life and well-being,” said Dr Mia Nunez, director of clinical development at NOCD. “OCD is so often misrepresented or totally ignored in popular media, which contributes to the 10-14 year journey to finding the right care. NOCD’s unique leadership position gives us the opportunity to change the conversation around OCD and break down barriers to effective care. That is why we are expanding our educational efforts throughout the month and making these resources available throughout the year through our online community. We want to create every opportunity to help so many people get better and end the stigma associated with OCD. ”
