  • Mary Kay received 58 awards and honors in 2021, including: COVID Response (22 Awards), Partner Recognition in Social Impact / Annual Reports (4), Mary Kay Leadership Recognized for Leadership (7), business excellence (10) and an award-winning documentary (4 awards; 5 selections). Additionally, Mary Kay and / or its iconic founder, Mary Kay Ash, have been featured in two Harvard case studies, three textbooks, and a research paper.
  • Announcement of the appointment of Wendy Wang as President of her Asia-Pacific region. 54% of Mary Kay’s global leadership team are women.

Mary Kay Global Design Studio and digital innovation to improve the customer experience

  • Mary Kay Global Design Studio and Glamhive have announced the world’s first ever style-based TikTok reality show, Step & Repeat. The competition showcased the wardrobe, makeup and hair styling talents of TikTok users around the world. Participants showcased their talents from over 30 countries, and the groundbreaking campaign was featured in the British Daily Mail, The first daily row, and Vogue Business highlighting its innovative approach to using the relatively new social media platform.
  • Launch of Suite 13, a beauty experience that uses virtual reality to digitize the company’s first pop-up virtual showroom; Mary Kay MirrorMe â„¢ for augmented reality makeovers and the Mary Kay® Skin Analyzer app to scan your face for a personalized skin care routine.
  • Celebrated 25 years of partnership with Global Beauty Ambassador Luis Casco.

The science behind beauty

  • Launched Clinical Solutions â„¢ skin care, which consists of Mary Kay Clinical Solutions â„¢ Retinol 0.5 and Mary Kay Clinical Solutions â„¢ Calm + Restore Facial Milk and received the Seal of the Council of Dermatologists.
  • Dr. Michelle Hines, Ph.D., Director of Product Formulation for Mary Kay, has been announced as President-elect of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists (SCC).
  • In conjunction with the Society for Investigative Dermatology (SID), announced grants for skin health and skin diseases. Grants will be awarded to researchers conducting groundbreaking and innovative studies on skin health and skin diseases in order to discover new perspectives and intervention strategies.
  • Announced recipients of several science scholarships including: The Society of Cosmetic Chemists and Mary Kay Inc. – Madame CJ Walker Scholarships, in support of underrepresented minority students pursuing an undergraduate degree or study higher education in chemistry, physics, medicine, pharmaceuticals, biology, or related sciences and technologies; and provided five Girls in STEAM grants to young women currently engaged in innovative research. The 2021 recipients included: Mylana Brodovska, Ukraine; Selin Alara Ornek, Turkey; Jordan Reeves, United States; Ivanna Hernandez, Colombia; and Allie Weber, United States
  • Research unveiled during several virtual scientific conferences. The research included: sharing research on a gradual retinization process that dramatically improves tolerance to more concentrated pure retinol, while providing the primary benefits of retinol for the skin; presented the results of topical application of pure retinol improving hyperpigmentation in an Asian population; and The modulation mechanisms associated with skin barrier function effectively alleviate 2 common problems associated with sensitive skin.

Social impact / CSR

  • In 2021, Mary Kay’s Pink Changing Lives around the worldSM The Cause Empowerment Program has supported more than 15 NGOs around the world. Since 2008, the program has reached over six million women and their families by partnering with over 3,000 organizations, donating over $ 16 million.
  • Mary Kay China: China’s Henan Province has been hit by severe flooding. As a result of the flooding, at least 33 people were killed, 8 more were missing, 200,000 people were evacuated, 3 million people were affected, and the direct economic losses amounted to about 1.22 billion yuan. Mary Kay China donated 1 million yuan worth of products to the Henan Charity Federation.
  • Mary Kay Germany: European floods affected Germany, Austria, Belgium and the Netherlands and ranked as the most destructive natural hazard in Northern Europe. Mary Kay Germany has pledged up to 100,000 euros to support those affected.
  • Mary Kay Spain: In 2020-2021, partnered with Fundación Vicente Ferrer to provide access to healthcare for children and their families in India. Before the COVID-19 pandemic (in 2018), Mary Kay Spain funded the construction of a children’s school in the village of Pagadalavaripalli, located in the Kadiri (Anantapur) region of India.

Empowerment of women

  • Announced its commitment to advancing gender parity by issuing a position paper welcoming the European Commission’s strategy for gender equality for 2020-2025 and joining the Generation Equality Forum in Paris and five global action coalitions to accelerate gender equality by 2026.
  • In collaboration with UN Women, ILO and WE Empower, republished, “Strengthening support for women entrepreneurs in the response and recovery of COVID-19At the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW65).
  • Mary Kay and the Mary Kay Ash FoundationSM have been recognized in the Report of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women on the activities of the United Nations Trust Fund in Support of Actions to End Violence against Women at the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW65) and the Human Rights Council .

Diversity, equity and inclusion (DCI)

  • Announces 100% of Directors Based in US and Above Completed Mandatory Unconscious Bias Training.
  • Publication of data on gender diversity in the workplace: 54% of Mary Kay’s global leadership team are women; 61% of Mary Kay’s global workforce is made up of women; and 54% of global vice presidents and above are women; 59% of directors and more are women.
  • In collaboration with global partner Equal Rights Trust, announced the launch of innovative research on gender inequality in algorithms and artificial intelligence aimed at addressing gender equality and impacts of algorithmic systems, presented by Mary Kay.

  • Through its partnership with Arbor Day Foundation, the Time for Trees® initiative, has announced the fulfillment of the commitment to plant 100 million trees and inspire 5 million new tree planters by April 2022, one year in advance.
  • Mary Kay has been a partner of Nature Conservancy since 1991. In 2021, Mary Kay supported seven projects in the Solomon Islands, northern Australia, New Zealand, rural China, Mexico, the United States and Canada .
