FOLLOWING A FRONT THIS WEEKEND – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports
Happy Saturday, South Florida!
Hope everyone had a great week! Our working week started with great conditions, low humidity and beautiful blue skies. But sadly Friday ended the good weather where we saw torrential rains all over South Florida. And unfortunately for us, it looks like we’re going to stay in this soggy, stormy weather pattern. This morning we have already woken up to cloudy conditions and a few showers and thunderstorms coming from the Atlantic and that should continue.
So why was it so rainy and stormy on Friday after so many beautiful days? Well for starters we have deep tropical moisture entering our area from the south and this has helped increase the moisture available for showers and thunderstorms in South Florida. At the same time, we have another front slowly drifting south through our state. Before that front hits us, it will help trap all that moisture in our area over the weekend. And even worse, the direction flow (the winds that direct thunderstorms) will remain very light. This means thunderstorms will not move too quickly.
Like yesterday, we expect a high probability of rain and a few thunderstorms in the forecast. And due to cloud cover and the high probability of rain, our high afternoon temperatures will likely stay in the mid to 80’s. Of course, that doesn’t mean we expect great conditions with it. temperatures below average. After all, humidity levels will still remain very high today. With all the thunderstorms developing, we could see gusty winds and a lot of lightning in our area. Flooding will once again continue to be a concern as the ground is already saturated from the rain on Friday.
The end of the weekend does not promise any change and conditions very similar to what we expect today. Mainly cloudy skies, intermittent rain (sometimes heavy rain) and scattered thunderstorms in our region. Gusts of wind and lightning will once again accompany any thunderstorms that develop on Sunday. And because of all the rain we already saw on Friday and the rain we expect today, flooding will continue to be a big concern in South Florida.
Models suggest Monday can still be humid at times. With a front nearby, showers and thunderstorms will continue to be possible and of course the rain can be heavy at times. But then, nice changes should return to our region by Tuesday and Wednesday. This is because the front that will be above us for much of the weekend is eventually going to push south of us and allow some drier air to pass through South Florida. However, by the middle of the work week our surface winds will again be south to southwest, allowing our temperatures to climb into the upper 80s. So after a few soggy and stormy days here in South Florida, we can again expect an early “summer feel” when it comes to our temperatures. As we head into the end of the workweek, it looks like another (and potentially stronger) front may actually reach South Florida before the start of next weekend.
Have a good week-end!
